Sarasota County Sheriff candidate Colonel Kurt A. Hoffman is has announced several recent accomplishments from his campaign including endorsements from United States Congressman Vern Buchanan and United States Congressman Greg Steube. Both endorsements come on the heels of Colonel Hoffman also receiving endorsements from Florida House of Representatives members Will Robinson, Tommy Gregory, James Buchanan, and Florida State Senator Joe Gruters.Colonel Hoffman’s campaign for Sarasota County Sheriff reported $20,090 in contributions for the month of November, bringing his total monetary contributions to $105,100 to date. Thanks to strong community support, Hoffman hosted two successful fundraisers in October and November. “I am incredibly grateful for the support we received during both fundraising receptions, in addition to the more than 100 people who served on both host committees” commented Hoffman. SARASOTA- Sarasota County is exploring new ways to fight jail overcrowding, the county is now looking at a pilot project that would create a secure 40 bed mental health facility. “We have a population in the jail that are substance abusers,” Col. Kurt Hoffman. “And some of them are folks that need of mental health treatment, and not you’re traditional inmate in the facility. "A new program for veterans behind bars launched at Sarasota County jail on Wednesday. “We got several pods at the jail already and this is just another example some folks we can give specific treatment to,” said Colonel Kurt Hoffman. "Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight announced Thursday he doesn’t intend to run for a fourth term. Knight’s second-in-command is interested in taking over next. Col. Kurt Hoffman registered Thursday as a Republican sheriff’s candidate for the 2020 race with the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Office. “He’s more than ready,” Knight said.
